Summer Learning Journey!

So in this second to last activity for week one day 5 it is talking about how the treaty of waitangi happened. It happened against the Moari's and the British people. So did not know how to communicate with each other so they had to teach each other how to speak in English to make it more easier. So in this acitivty we had to read information below from the NZ toursim website.

fun things that you can do as a visitor in Waitangi.
Waitangi, one of New Zealand's most significant historic sites, is where the Treaty of
Image result for threeWaitangi was signed in 1840 between the British Crown and more than 500 Maori
chiefs. The treaty agreed the terms by which New Zealand would become a British
colony.
Today the Treaty Grounds are an opportunity to learn about Maori culture and the
historical events associated with the signing of the treaty. Visit the Treaty House
itself to see a replica of the original treaty; marvel at the fully carved Maori meeting
house and one of the largest Maori war canoes in the country; and watch a film at
the visitor centre. Live kapa haka performances are also held regularly and there’s a
hotel located within the reserve that has a restaurant and bar.
Not only is Waitangi engaging from an educational point of view, it's also a very
beautiful place to explore. From the small semi-formal garden that surrounds the
Treaty House to the 6-kilometre forest walk that leads to Haruru Falls, the natural
environment is spectacular. The shoreline provides a continuously changing
panorama of the bay where warriors, whalers, sailors and settlers arrived in New
Zealand.

  • Walk 6-kilometer to the forest walk that leads to Haruru Falls.
  • You can visit the treaty house itself.
  • Watch Live kapa haka performances
I really enjoy doing this because how I got to think about three things that is fun to do when people visit Waitangi and maybe one day I could go do some stuff like that.
-Enjoy Reading!
So what else do you think is fun that people can do at Waitangi?
Have you been to Waitangi?

Hi Aletheia,

Ruby here from the Summer Learning Journey team!
Great work! I like how you have attached what you read on the website so that we knew what you were talking about. You've thought of three great activities to do at Waitangi. Is there one that you would like to do the most?

I have been to Waitangi a few times and it's always lots of fun. My favourite thing to do is walk around the Treaty Grounds and visit Treaty House. It's right on the beach too so you can walk down on the sand. Have you ever been to Waitangi? I wonder if you would like to visit there one day.

I look forward to reading more of your blog.
Cheers,
Ruby.
